Hullo, is it possible to reinstall Windows XP Domicile Edition without the CD. I take the product fundamental info sticker still on the side of this old Gateway. It withal operates merely occasionaly I become an fault message and the computer has to shutdown.  I forget what the error message was, but it was missing a commuter or dll or plainly something critical.  Information technology'south been in my garage for months nwo simply I actually need to go it support and running.

Whatever help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It is impossible to install windows without a windows installation package whether the package exist on a disc or other bootable device unless, of form, your computer has a recovery option.  Personally, however, I practice non perceive your issue to be so detrimental as to require a re-install. This is particularly true since you are able to use the computer at times. The next time you become the error, write downwardly the error lawmaking and post back. In the hateful time, download, update and cull a full scan with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware. This very well could resolve the outcome. Even if it doesn't atleast you lot calculator will be infection gratis.

No.  It is non possible to reinstall Windows without the proper media.  On the other hand, if y'all postal service a question with an exact error bulletin, someone may be able to help you.

With OEM computers, like your Gateway, the manufacturer is responsible for replacing lost media.  SeeHow to supplant Microsoft software or hardware .  Depending on how old your "sometime Gateway" is, y'all may or may not be able to obtain a replacement.

No. Merely if you lot know someone with the same version and OEM edition as
you lot have, yous may borrow their CD. Simply use your own product key.

I accept the product key info sticker still on the side of this old Gateway. It all the same operates but occasionaly I go an error message and the reckoner has to shutdown.  I forget what the error message was, only information technology was missing a driver or dll or obviously something critical.  It's been in my garage for months nwo but I really demand to go it back up and running.

Reinstalling simply because you become an error message is nearly always
way overkill. Delight find out what the mistake message is and post it
hither to attempt to go assist. Information technology's likely that someone hither tin can help
you and reinstallation won't exist required. Also tell us what level of
Service Pack is installed.

Endeavor this. Click kickoff > run > type regedit > Ok. Navigate to the following entry. Click on the Winlogon folder and in the correct pane locate SFCDisable.  If the value at the end of SFCDisable is anything other than 0 right click on SFCDisable and choose modify. Set up the value to 0 and save the changes.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

And, don't forget to notify me of the scan results.

Here are some answers.

The value was zero: 0x00000000 (0)

And I take Service Pack iii.

The SUPERAntiSpyware scan is even so running. I run across there's quite a few "threats detected" then far (88). I'll do the other scan next.  And then, in  acouple hours I'll have all the info you requested.

Again, cheers for your aid. Should be interesting to see if this solves the "glitch."

It's as well interesting to notation that I take Non received that fault bulletin the entire time. Commonly, the pop-up appears with that error message and I just let it be. I don't click on it. By avoiding information technology, my computer doesn't crash or shut down. Just when I click on "abolish" does information technology shutdown immediately. But like I said, no mistake message yet today.

The error very well could have been the result of malware. However, until the scan completes and you actually remove the infections they are even so active on your computer. So, the detection alone is insufficient to forestall the effects. Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the finish results. You may also want to consider running TDSS Killer. A very short scan but powerful rootkit detector.
